I attended a wedding workshop yesterday with Christina Craft-Funky Town Photography. It was so nice to have a hands-on learning experience since I do most of my studying online. It was great to meet with new photographers and interact in a photo shoot with them. It’s always interesting to see how everyone perceives the same environment so differently. Christina was such an inspiration. As a teacher at the Western Academy of Photography, I felt she would have plenty to offer me in her workshop and I was thrilled to be a part of it. I think one of the most valuable aspects I took home that day was it’s ok to go to the extreme. Find who you are as a photographer and embrace who you are as an artist. I also was reminded that it’s ok to make mistakes. Mistakes help you learn and grow (and sometimes they end up being your best shots)! Attending this workshop was very refreshing. Christina reminded me to not be afraid to push to the extremes. I look forward to using the tid-bits I learned in my future sessions. Look out world!
Here are a few shots from the photo session from the day:
Kind of went a little artsy with this one with a water-color feel.

You Are Your Worst Critic (Tip of the Month)
I’ve been having one of those weeks where I’ve really been beating myself up. One of those times when I just hate all my photos. I pick out all the flaws, and put myself down, wishing I was better. My mom ended up telling me “You are your worst critic.”
I ended up tuning in to a Creative Live session with Jasmine Star, and one quote she mentioned made my rethink my entire situation. She said “You may not like where you are but look how far you’ve come.” At that moment, I kind of thought “huh, you know what, she’s right. I have come far in my two years of professional shooting and since graduating, and studying photography books, I have grown as a photographer”. I also read a blog post from Just For You Photography that summed up my situation. It made me feel better knowing I’m not the only one who goes through these little episodes.
This week, I made myself sit down and go through my old photos and study them, and then also study the photos I’ve done recently. This is the BEST thing to do as a photographer, study your photos, pick out what was right, pick out what was wrong, and practice, practice, practice to make it better. Do this with other photographers work that you admire. Study their photos and ask yourself “why do I love this photo?” Pick out what you love and study WHY it works. The more you can observe and pick out and know WHY it was wrong or WHY it was right, will help you grow and get BETTER. Try it. You will be refreshed.

Christine ~ Southern Alberta Portrait Photographer
This is my beautiful sister Christine. She has been such a huge support for me in my photography. My very first portrait session was with her and her horse in a "Little House on the Prairie" type dress with my little Canon Powershot camera. After this session, that was it, I fell in love with portrait photography. There are more photos of her on my old blog when I was known as jaekPhotography. You can Click Here for the link to that. Enjoy!

Justine was fabulous to work with for our wedding day. I have absolutely no regrets about choosing her to capture our day and the moments within it. Justine captured the fun we had together that day, the love and all the little moments that really made our day special. She was full of innovative ideas and creativity to make our pictures different then the rest and also was very encouraging of our own ideas. She made us feel comfortable throughout the whole day, shared laughs and moments with us and truly captured everything we could have wanted and then more in photographs. She is truly an amazing and talented photographer with a real niche for bringing out the beauty that surrounds you and truly makes you feel like a model throughout the whole shoot! I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a great, talented and easy to work with photographer. We plan to use her for anything else we want to capture in time with pictures!

My Fiance and I had our first ever couples photo shoot with Justine. We weren't really sure what to expect but from the minute we started, she made us feel at ease. Everything was very relaxed and we both felt very comfortable with her. Our photos turned out great, better than we could have expected! I have also had a chance to do an individual shoot with Justine. It was so fun and full of different ideas! Thanks Justine for the great photo experiences!

I just did a photoshoot with Justine Rombough and absolutely loved it! We did a Boudoir shoot together, and at first I was a little nervous about it. I'm not a sexy person to begin with, but Justine made me feel good, sexy and comfortable all at the same time! She was very easy to work with; I've been with other photographers before that have been very rude towards me and my family if we didn't get the pose right at first. Justine has a vision and she knows what she wants, but instead of being demanding and rude about it she shows you and directs you in a friendly way.
This wasn’t my first photoshoot with her; she was the photographer at my sisters wedding and it was the same thing, she was very easy going; had a vision and goes with it. She gets to know who you are and she works with you and incorporates her vision along with who you are. And the end results are always the same…ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! I just saw a few of my boudoir pictures and I can’t believe how good they are! I would definitely recommend her as a photographer; I know I will always use her :) Thanks Justine!!

Jessica ~ Lethbridge Portrait Photographer
Another vintage-inspired photoshoot. I went to Heritage Park in Calgary this past weekend for the first time. Wow, what a neat place! We took a peek through some of the little shops in the village and I found these beautiful vintage umbrellas! I fell in love with the thought to have them and use them in photoshoots. My grandmother decided she would buy it for me as an early christmas present. Thanks granny! Slowly I am collecting props that I have on my list. I couldn't wait to get back home and do a photoshoot, and voila! Thank you Jess for volunteering. I believe you were the perfect model for this shoot with your style.
Tip of the Month!
Ok, I know I’ve been a little behind with “Tip of the Month” and I apologize! The tips these next few months are going to be a little different. I want to ask YOU to ask ME a question (regarding photography), and each question will be answered as the tip for the months after. It can be any question you can think of that you would love to know about photography or about my photography. I think this is a great way to learn and share together. I encourage others to add their advice as well. The only way you can get better, is to ask questions and learn from each other. You can ask your questions in a comment at the bottom of this blog post, or in the Discussion Board on Facebook.
Cheers!

Jamie ~ Southern Alberta Portrait Photographer
Anyone who knows me knows I LOVE fashion photography. I also love beauty/model photography. Being able to find models willing to give me all they've got is rare and so incredibly awesome when I get the chance! This is Jamie. Gorgeous girl! She modelled for me once, and I regret not getting her to model just before she left to live in British Columbia. Next time she is down to visit family, I am definately gona get her to model for me! She was amazing. She gave me all she got! We were out photographing for awhile and I could tell she was getting tired (sorry James!) but she kept up with me! This is another session when I was jaekPhotography. You can Click Here to view them. Enjoy!
Taiya
This is my beautiful neice, Taiya. Her and her brother Cole are two loves of my life. I love them with every piece of my heart. I wish they lived closer, especially in the summertime, because then we get to do fun sessions like these! Taiya is my perfect little model (for the first 15 minutes, and then we have to really chase her around to get more photos!) But overall she's wonderful! She has the most AMAZING eyes that are super wonderful to photograph :) Here is my princess...
