Jason & Avery {Engagement} - Southern Alberta Wedding Photographer

Jason and Avery decided to have their engagement session out at Avery’s family farm (which their country wedding will also be taking place). There were so many spots to utilize for this session, I loved it!
Jason and Avery are one of the cutest couples I have ever met! You could just tell from the moment you see the two of them together that they were meant to be. I am super excited to be photographing their country wedding in July!

Stop Pouting and Do Something About It ~ Southern Alberta Wedding and Portrait Photographer

Lately being confined at home with a giant belly I have been feeling pretty down. I didn’t book much for photo sessions this year because I didn’t want anything to really interfere with the new experience of having a brand new baby. It could be (and probably is) a mix of the pregnancy hormones speaking here, but I have felt like I’ve been failing this year. There are always days in my life where I feel like just giving up on my passion, like this month. I look at photographers that I know and how they are shooting this wedding and travelling for this course and WPPI ect…I get SO jealous. I sit here and pout about not being able to be involved in all these wonderful opportunities and courses.
Sooooo instead of pouting and feeling sorry for myself, I’ve decided to do something. I’ve been watching some Creative Live episodes lately (as there is not much else to do). I have been filling my time immersing myself in the world of photography, learning everything I can before I have a little one to take up my time. I have been so extremely inspired by the few speakers that have been featured on Creative Live and I can not wait to start shooting more again! My mind is reeling with ideas, and I can not wait for the weddings I have booked this summer. Also, I am thrilled to have a little one to practice newborn photography on. (Poor guy will probably never have time to nap).
I love that now-a-days people are not afraid to share their knowledge and secrets to the world. Creative Live is probably one of the best sources out there to learn about photography right now and I am so incredibly thankful for them! I applaud those who take time to help others to pursue their dream. I had one mentor I am incredibly thankful for when I first started my journey in photography. If it was not for her I’m not sure I’d be where I am today. She is an amazing photographer, and an amazing person. I would like to thank Jan from the bottom of my heart for everything she taught me.
I would love to share in my passion of photography with someone. If you are serious about becoming a photographer and would like to get started I would love to hear from you, get together for a coffee or something. Seriously, email me. I would love to have someone to share the passion of photography with and gain a friend and a steady second shooter/assistant for weddings and portrait sessions. I love my mom (who is my assistant now) but if she can be a babysitter instead that would also be wonderful! (A HUGE thanks to you mom for all the help you have given me so far and to come. There is SERIOUSLY NO WAY I could have done ANY of this without you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you).
I know I am terrible and blogging and feel I ramble on randomly about different things but I feel blog posts like this, I do just sit and start typing about things on my mind, hoping to get my thoughts out and feel better. Today was one of those pouty days and I realized, there is still something I can do for myself. There is always something to do to improve what you do; it’s just a matter of finding it. I encourage those of you who have down days to look back and realize just how far you’ve come, and think of ways you can improve yourself even more. We live in a world where you can find anything on the internet and I encourage you if you find yourself ‘stuck in a rut’, go and search and discover and learn. There is never ending knowledge to be gained in this world! In my case, the world of photography!

The Camera Bag Dilemma

Wow, there are too many wonderfully stylish camera bags out there and I am stuck! Between Kelly Moore, Epiphanie and Jo Totes how is a girl to choose! I am such an indecisive person that wonderful options like these make it very hard for me to come to a decision! Plus, I actually HATE shopping online. I prefer tangible shopping!

I own a Jo Totes Rose bag right now, which I love by the way. This bag holds my Mark II with lens attached, my backup body, 2 additional lenses, my flash, batteries, camera cards, lens cleaner, keys and more! It is, unfortunately, not a bag to have over your shoulder the entire shooting time. I take this bag when shooting weddings because it fits everything I would need.

I would like my next bag to be an everyday bag and I am stuck between the Epiphanie Lyric Bag and Kelly Moore 2 Sues Bag. I can not very well buy both, (right away any ways J). I want an everyday camera bag because my husband and I are expecting the arrival of our son in May and I am going to want to have my camera at my side at all times to capture all those wonderful little boy moments!

I love the idea of having the 2 Sues bag because it has SO much storage! Not only can you fit the necessary camera gear but pretty much all the contents of you purse as well. This bag looks bigger than what I would need on a daily basis, but I like that I could fit more if I decided I would like to bring more gear when going to a photo shoot.

And then there’s the Lyric bag. I love the look of this bag because it has that bohemian look that I LOVE. This bag looks like it would fit the necessary gear that I would want to bring on a photo shoot and additional space for everyday items I would need to carry. I love the shape of the bag how it would fit comfortably with your body and doesn’t look so stiff.

If you own one or both of these bags, please leave a review on this blog post! I need your help! (Although, I have a feeling by the end of this the decision is going to be even harder)!

Cory & Rikki {Engagment} Taber Wedding Photographer

I’ve known Rikki and Cory since they’ve been together in high school. Yes, these two are high school sweethearts! They have a beautiful little boy and are tying the knot this August. We decided to have the session down at Taber Park. The river was low and mostly frozen and we found this little alcove in the weeds that I fell in love with. Photographing these two was so easy. I am very excited for their upcoming wedding!

Ypma Family ~ Taber Family Photographer

I photographed this beautiful family last weekend. The girls welcomed us as soon as we pulled in the driveway grabbing our hands and helping carry in the equipment, dragging us into their home. They were so excited! It was a ton of fun working with this family.
Enjoy!

Matt & Tanya {Engaged!} ~ Lethbridge Wedding Photographer

Matt and Tanya were a blast to work with. I actually met Tanya as a bridesmaid at Dylan and Shana’s wedding back in October.
We decided to have this session down at the river bottom. It turned out to be gorgeous weather seeing that the winds were supposed to blow at 70 km/hr. I swear the wind stopped just for our session because about thirty minutes after we finished it was windy again!
Matt and Tanya were full of love and laughs. I wish you two all the best on your wedding day and beyond!

When is the big day?
 July 7, 2012
At Sunset Gardens, Las Vegas NV

How did you meet?
We met while working together for an agency that supports individuals with disabilities.  He asked me if I played racquetball, I lied and said yes (I had to google how to play) and we have been together ever since!

How did he/she propose?
I took Matt to visit my family in BC, and during the visit, we went to see the waterfalls.  We went ahead of me, and said, “Oh my gosh Tan, check out that rock.” On the ground, was an open velvet box, with my engagement ring inside.  He then got on his knee and asked if I would marry him.

Favorite thing about each other?
He says: Her sense of humor…
She says: He balances me out…

Your idea of a perfect date?
He says Playing call of duty/dinner and hockey game
She says: Going for a walk with our 2 pups

What’s your favorite thing to do together?
 We love to travel together

Your favorite hangout?
 He says: Las Vegas
She says: I'm more realistic and say Chapters!

What are you looking forward to the most on your wedding day?
He says: sharing his special day with family and friends
She says: adding more diamonds to the collection (Ha ha)
On a serious note: marrying my best friend.
